South Canterbury HUNTS Course: A Milestone Year of Success

Roger Bright has delivered HUNTS courses on Great Barrier Island for the past 14 years. Roger and his wife Kylie, both police officers, retired in October to relocate to the mainland and setup their new home near Gisborne.

The course has been successfully run, with most of the activities delivered on the island, but also with an excursion to the mainland to complete the hunting weekend on a local Waikato property. Last year, the course was at risk of ending because of the shooting range regulations. Fortunately, the NZDA Direct Branch facilitated the certification of a range on Great Barrier that is now used by HUNTS and other community groups. This has secured the future of HUNTS on the Great Barrier.

We are very sad to see Roger leave, however we are very happy to have Andy and Logan, who assisted Roger with the HUNTS course for several years, apply to become instructors so they can continue to deliver the course.

Now Roger is moving to Tairawhiti, he will join the Gisborne HUNTS team, where his experience and knowledge with HUNTS will not be lost. We wish Roger and Kylie all the very best with their new adventure.
