Introduction to Postal Shooting
Throughout the year a series of shooting championships are held by each branch at their club range which is supervised by a Range Officer. NZDA members' targets and score cards are submitted by their branch via post to the National Office where they are scrutinised by judges.
NZDA Postal, Branch and Interbranch Competitions
NZDA has a number of postal, branch and inter-branch competitions for its members, some of these are aimed at hunters and fostering inter-branch competition while others are aimed more toward competition shooting with hunting rifles. Keep reading to hear about whats available to members.

JM Wilkinson and Hawkes Bay Challenge Cups
Both of these competitions are aimed at hunters and use a deer silhouette as a target with no scoring rings marked on the target.

Taupo Branch Interbranch Trophy
This is a team event and the number of team members is dictated by the number of branch members. The total score is divided by the number of team members.
Course of fire:
Position | Shots | Distance | Time Allowed |
Prone | 3x | 100m | Three minutes |
Sitting | 3x | 100m | Forty seconds |
Standing | 3x | 100m | Four seconds per shot |
Target Used:
Official NZDA 200m, type 5 or 6 target.

Free Rifle Competitions
Shooting Style
These competitions are to provide an opportunity for branch members who wish to shoot under conditions similar to a prone field situation, where a pack or similar is used as a rest, or who wish to compete in branch competition but are not able or do not wish to develop position rifle shooting skills.
The rifle is supported either on a detached or attached rest at the forend and a sand bag, a pack or similar is used as a rest, hand or arm at the butt stock.
Firearms and Equipment for the 3x Competitions
The firearms used are any centerfire that is 8mm or less in calibre and weighs no more than 7.75kg, while scope power is 'open'.
