ACT Seeks Feedback on Its Firearms Policy Ahead of the 2026 Election

ACT Party's Next Steps for Firearms Reform

The ACT Party has released a consultation document called ACT’s Next Steps for Firearms Reform, and it’s asking licensed firearm owners for their views. ACT says the feedback will shape its final firearms policy for the 2026 election and inform any coalition negotiations that follow.

The document opens with an introduction from ACT Firearms Spokesperson Nicole McKee, who sets out what ACT says it has achieved this term, including the replacement of the Arms Act 1983 and the separation of firearms regulation from Police enforcement. It then lists a set of proposals ACT is considering for its next term, grouped under a few broad areas.

If you’d like to have your say, email your feedback to firearms@act.org.nz by Monday 26 October 2026.

ACT has also asked that the document be shared with clubs, members and other licensed firearm owners, so feel free to pass it on.
