Antler, Horn and Tusk (AHT)

NZDA has long measured and recorded trophy heads using the Douglas Score and NZDA systems. Every year the best heads taken locally are sent to conference for measuring. The following are the categories of big game animal accepted for entry:

  1. Wapiti or Fiordland Deer
  2. Red deer
  3. Sika
  4. Fallow
  5. Rusa
  6. Sambar
  7. Whitetail

8. Wild Sheep
9. Tahr
10. Chamois
11. Wild goat
12. Pig tusks - drawn
13. Pig tusks - undrawn

Douglas Score Recommendation

We have a recommended Douglas Score as a guide when considering entries for the NZDA National Trophy Competition, but please note that this is not a minimum requirement and any trophy can be entered.

Medal Score Requirements

In addition to the trophies for each competition, those heads that equal or exceed the Douglas Score standards for the various species as set out in the table below, shall with the unanimous recommendation of the judges be awarded the appropriate gold, silver, or bronze awards.
