The NZDA National Shooting Committee represents and supports the Association’s competitive shooting disciplines. The committee coordinates national events and championships, maintains rule consistency across disciplines, and provides leadership to ensure the continued growth, integrity, and enjoyment of target shooting within the NZDA community.

I love shooting as a sport and compete in or have competed in most of the disciplines that the association is involved with. My role in the NSC is the Chair and National Shooting Convenor, and as the National Vice President I act as the conduit to the National Board, and that is how we will ratify change for our sport.
My goal for the NSC is to improve participation and awareness of our sport. For this to happen I believe we need to focus on shooting at the Branch level and introduce new members to the sport. My focus will be on the Hunter/Factory Class of our disciplines because as a Hunting based organisation we all have a hunting rifle.
We currently have a selection of shooting events around the country, and I challenge all members to go along to your own branch and give it a go, or if your club doesn't have a range, come along to a regional event nearby. Us shooters are always keen to help a newbie.

Executive member and Range Officer for NZDA North Auckland Branch.
67 years old below average fitness city dwelling firearms owner. We don’t all have access, fitness or time to enjoy all of New Zealand’s excellent hunting opportunities.
My current focus at my branch is improving the shooting facilities and conditions for range shooters across all forms – Archery – Airgun – Black Powder – Rimfire and Centre Fire and all shooting disciplines. Encourage local, regional and national competitions between clubs.
But overall make it fun, safe and healthy to be involved with shooting clubs.

As a non-shooter, I bring a fresh perspective to the team. Using my marketing skills, advertising background, and methodical approach, I aim to help grow the sport nationwide. I held a similar volunteer position within the Kāpiti Community Foodbank for three years. There I helped promote the organisation, encouraged donations, and assisted with fundraising - including the refurbishment of their new relocatable premises.
I believe the key to growing the sport is at the grassroots level. I see our role as showcasing the sport, empowering branches to embrace the shoots, facilitating changes to the national shooting manual (as deemed necessary by the disciplines), and creating a resource hub to help branches adopt shoots they’re interested in.

I am an experienced construction professional and long-time competitive shooter with a strong background in project coordination, event organisation, and community engagement. Currently serving as an Engineering Projects Coordinator at Silver Fern Farms in Christchurch, I bring skills in planning, stakeholder management, and regulatory compliance.
Over the years, I have actively supported New Zealand’s shooting sports through club committee roles, coaching initiatives, and ongoing participation in national and international competitions. I am most active in Rifle Metallic Silhouette and Sporting Rifle, but will give almost any shooting competition a go.
Most recently, I led a successful marksmanship course for new shooters with the North Canterbury Deerstalkers and have maintained strong connections within the competitive shooting community across New Zealand and Australia.
I am passionate about supporting the growth of shooting sports and committed to contributing to the NZDA Shooting Committee through well-organised, inclusive, and high-quality events.

How does my experience fit into my position on the Deerstalker National Shooting Committee (D NSC).
As a Firearms and Ranges Advocacy Co-ordinator for the Deerstalker National Shooting Committee, I bring several years of experience and skills which I am only to please to pass on. I am particularly keen to encourage new and young people into the sport of shooting and hunting.
I believe we in the sport need to encourage in any way possible that the sport of hunting and shooting is a safe and rewarding pass time.
I look forward to working with the rest of the team to build on the great work done by past committees.

I’ve been a member of the Bay of Plenty branch since 2010 when I joined and volunteered to help out with the development of our 300m rifle range.
With the change in firearms legislation, I became a Police approved range inspector, however that role has now become redundant thanks to Nichole Mackee’s great work reversing much of requirements for certifying non pistol shooting ranges.
My main interest is “accurate” rifles, and I have had a number of custom rifles built on Remington, Tikka and Sako and custom actions, and for the past few years I’ve been competing in short range benchrest. Benchrest is a bit of a hidden sport! I bet you didn’t know there a 4 registered bench rest matches run by NZDA branches each year? I suspect some of the other shooting disciplines also have a very low profile, and I’m looking forward to working with Hamish and the rest of the Shooting committee to expand the profile of competitive shooting for all the disciplines
