The NZDA Bay of Plenty Branch hosted this benchrest tournament at the Tokoroa Shooting Sport Complex on the 23rd-24th August. The usual rifle classes were shot being factory class, light varmint and heavy varmint. A practice day was also held on Friday with several attending. Some competitors camped at the range for the duration of the event. A group dinner was held at the Tokoroa Club on Saturday evening.
Two competitors shot factory class. One was from the BOP branch with a 223REM and the other from Whangarei with a 22-250REM. Nine other competitors from Auckland to Taupo competed in the other two classes with rifles chambered in 6PPC. One junior shooter also competed.
The weather was reasonably fine for the two competition days. Shooting was delayed from starting on Saturday as a herd of escaped cows was enjoying the green grass the range had to offer. Once this was sorted the pressure was on to complete the course of fire before the winter daylight ran out. The breeze was quite fickle, predominantly being a tail wind most of the time.
