Protecting Hunters' Rights in New Zealand Since 1937

Protecting your rights to enjoy recreational hunting, bushcraft, and shooting for over 75 years

We promote safe, responsible use of firearms, and a respect for native flora and fauna. We believe in the principle of public ownership of wildlife generally, and seek to prevent the creation of privileged hunting / exclusive access to the publicly owned fish and wildlife assets that belong to all New Zealanders

  • We are the National body representing and speaking for recreational hunters.

  • We believe that the organisation and management of recreational hunting in New Zealand should be carried out by sportsmen and sportswomen.

  • We oppose commercial exploitation of the wildlife and natural resources of New Zealand, wherever and whenever such action is deemed to jeopardise, restrict or conflict with the public usage thereof, or to be contrary to sound conservation practice.

  • We strive to foster interest in native flora and fauna and the conservation of the same.

NZDA Museum: Construction has started!

The NZDA takes another big step forward for New Zealand hunting as construction of Wellington's first ever Hunting Museum begins. The current Deerstalkers home in Thorndon will be undergoing a huge facelift and upgrade, just in time for our new CEO. Our Constitution was recently modernised at Conference, so too will be our premises.

The project is a collaboration between the NZDA National Heritage Trust, NZDA National Office, and the NZDA Wellington Branch. A $500,000 Lottery grant was contributed to go towards the facilities to be built to help safegauard the Trust's rare heritage collections and archives.

Consequently, the NZDA has moved out of the building into a temporary office. We are now situated on Level 3 of the James Smith building, 49-65 Cuba street. There will be some disruption to the day to day office, your patience is much appreciated.

See our latest newsletter for full details. Thanks goes to all those volunteers involved.
