New Zealand's Big Game Trophy records are currently being compiled into a series of books each focusing on a species, or group of species.
The series is a joint venture between NZDA, Halcyon Publishing, and the author,D. Bruce Banwell, New Zealand's foremost writer on deer. The series will cover the top trophies taken in New Zealand for all the game animals recognised by the Association.
Each work will look at the origin, liberation, spread and establishment of the various species, along with information about its present status and location. Hunting tips will be included. The feature of each work is a listing of all known trophies, along with their Douglas Score statistics, as recorded by the Association over a number of years.
Volume 1, "The Sika", was published in May 1999 and is currently out of print. Volume 2,"Wapiti and Moose" was published in May 2001,& and Volume 3 "Fallow Deer" has now been published. Volume 4 (Sambar, Rusa & Whitetail Deer) is currently in the planning stages.
