"The Fallow Deer"

The Fallow Deer, is the third in a series of books that will eventually form the official National Deerstalkers' Association Inc record series, covering the top trophies taken in New Zealand for all game animals recognized by NZDA.

Fallow deer have been around humans for millennia and it just so happened that some found their way to New Zealand.

The quality of the NZ fallow has final1y born fruit in the third of a series of Big Game Animal records compiled by the NZ Deerstalkers' Association since the Exhibition of Hunting in 1978 and thanks to the fortitude of the fallow record keepers that this edition has reached print.

The quality of the trophies taken and the lasting memories of the hunt have had the hand of magic stamped on then by one of New Zealand's leading big game animal writers, D Bruce Banwell.

Not only have the records been accurately kept, but also they have been presented in a fashion that everyone can understand.

The top trophies have even got a small anecdotal tale of their taking. These are important stories as they still live in the memories of the stalker even after eons of time.

Bruce has taken the taxonomic histories of each species of fallow to the nth as he has in the two previous issues.

The colour section has a good selection of animals and their habitat, as one would expect from a book of this calibre.

For the dedicated trophy hunter it is a collector's item of where the top heads have come from and a record of the animal that will last forever. That is why the NZDA endorses the ethics of hunting and the compilation of honest records.

This book is a must for the bookshelf of facts, figures, memories and history.
