Central Regional Championship Results

18th and 19th October 2008 - Hosted by the Rotorua Branch at their Mead Road Range

Saturday 18th October - Rimfire Match

The forecast did not look all that good and the wind certainly mixed things up a bit.

Entries were down a bit largely due to the fact there was not a lot of advertising carried out. Our pet Range Officer was not available, so I did that rather than shoot, and one of the team members (Colin) had to work. There were two non team members so we had nine shooters for the weekend.

The programme was 4P at 50m 20 shot matches. After the prone, the top three places were taken by: Grant Botting (Taupo) 196; Sue Gavin (South Waikato) 195; Mark Poots (Taupo) 193.

Like I said, the wind mixed things up a bit and after the sitting, the top three places were: Brenda Perry (Rotorua) 196; Sue Gavin 190 (those girls again!!); Ian Williamson (South Waikato) 189.

Kneeling and another shooter got among the top three: Mike Bailey (Taupo) 186; Grant Botting 186; Ian Williamson 185; Sue Gavin 184.

Then the match that sorts it all out - Standing: Brenda Perry 171; Grant Botting163; Mike Bailey 161.

The grand aggregate for the day and medals: Gold - Brenda Perry 737; Silver - Grant Botting 732; Bronze - Sue Gavin 728; (all members of the Rimfire team).

Sunday 19th October - Centrefire Match, and 4P at 100m 20 Shot Matches

Fingers crossed the rain would stay away; it did, but the wind was still present.

Prone top three: Brenda Perry 200.10; John Stick (North Auckland) 200.09; Ian Williamson 199.11; not much between them.

Sitting, and again Brenda not giving much away at 200.02; Hilary Heard (Perry) 196.02; Mike Bailey 194.04.

Kneeling and still Brenda with 196.03; Grant Botting 193.07; Ian Williamson 191.02. Standing: Brenda Perry 185.01; John Stick 174.01; Hilary Heard 172.01.

After that lot, it was not surprising that the Gold medal went to Brenda Perry 781.16; Silver to Hilary Heard 751.12; Bronze to Grant Botting 749.23.

Just prior to the presentation it was thought that Grant had 751.23 so was ahead of Hilary, but Grant being the good sportsman he is, owned up to an error in his score thereby creating a situation that I have been hoping might be one day - my two daughters 1st and 2nd - I guess I am a little proud.
