This year’s National Shooting Week had several important features. The programme had been rearranged to try and encourage more participation and this seems to have worked with 20 plus shooters in Rimfire and Centrefire positional competition (the best turnout since 2002).
The surprise was that we also had 20 plus for the 60 Shot Prone 200m match, and Short F Class had 10 participants. The highlight of the F Class Shoot was a competitor entering it for the first time gaining 3rd Place, well done Colin Curreen of Tokoroa (South Waikato Branch). Colin also had another highlight when he broke Brenda Perry’s record in the 60 Shot Prone.
A summary of the week is:

Range Officer Phil Gardner. Conditions for this match near perfect and we saw a very sought after record broken. After an hour and 45 minutes and six ten shot targets Colin could breathe a sigh of relief with a new record of 598.29.

Our South Canterbury Junior also took part. Jaimee McCarthy - 493.05. Well done for first time.
After all the fine weather our luck had to change and the day was interrupted with several heavy showers, but otherwise not too bad. Range Officer duties shared by Geoff Brewer and Malcolm Perry. Two details saw the day progress well. Only one shoot off was required to settle 2nd and 3rd place between Geoff and Steve Smith (Taranaki). This was settled in the first round of five chickens when Geoff toppled 3 to Steve’s 2.
Conditions again heavy showers and enough wind to be troublesome. Range Officer for the day Malcolm Perry. With ten entries this year it appears this may be a growing discipline
With only four recognized Bench Rest Shooters taking part there was obviously six shooters who had not shot this event before, and one of them did very well to take the Bronze medal. After this 100m section the leading three were: First - Tony Titheridge - 307; Second - Kevin Duckworth - 300; Third - Colin Curreen - 293.
The same three took out the 200m section: Gold - Tony Titheridge - 282; Silver - Kevin Duckworth - 282; Bronze - Colin Curreen - 269.
They also took out the aggregate: Gold - Tony Titheridge - 589; Silver - Kevin Duckworth - 582; Bronze - Colin Curreen - 562
