North Island Championship Results 2007

Hosted by the South Waikato Branch on their Tokoroa Shooting Sports Complex

This year’s event was attended by twenty shooters, from Whangarei in the North to Wellington in the South. This was up on last year’s, but down on the previous year, even with several locals who would normally attend but were unable to do so.

Conditions both days were great (for a change lately) and this was reflected in the number of records broken. In the teams events there were three 'A' category teams and one 'B' category team. It was disappointing that there were no juniors present.

Another first this year, Sandi Curreen organised small trophies instead of the usual Top Ten badges. The trophies seemed to be well appreciated and do look great; Thank you Sandi.

The competition starts with Rimfire on Saturday, 50m & 100m 3P.

The records started to fall in the first match (50m prone) with two shooters Mark Poots and Ian Williamson both posting 100’s (old record North Island 99) and in the 100m Prone Colin Curreen equaled the 1999 record (97.02).  Brenda Perry increased the 100m kneel to 94.02 and the 100m Total to 276.03 (old record 272.03).

Sunday is 100m 4P Centrefire and records fell like nine pins.

First Colin Curreen increased the Prone record from 100.05 to 100.09 then in the Sit Brenda Perry increased her record from 99.07 to 100.05. The kneeling match was uneventful record wise then Brenda increased her own record again in the Stand to 92.03 (old 92.01).

The most significant record break however was discovered when the grand aggregate was tallied up and we discovered Brenda had done it again, increased her aggregate record for the fourth time since year 2000 without anybody having equaled or beating them while they were current. The old record was 919.17 the new is 931.16. It should be a while before she increases that one.

North Island Championship Results 2007

In closing, I would like to thank Phil Gardner for being his usual efficient self as range officer on Saturday; Brian Lambert who range officered on Sunday; Sandi Curreen for her efforts on the computer, which always makes the final tally up much more efficient; and last but not least, all the shooters who pitched in changing targets etc. whenever it was needed.

At the shooter ’s meeting it was unanimously decided to hold the North Island 2008 at the same venue and endeavor to enlist some outside help to run it.
